2 Korean blog post interrogated how the Judith Butler’s ‘Gender Trouble’ mis-cited Dr. Page’s paper on the chromosomal which decides biological sexuality. J. Butler cited Dr. Page’s paper to assert that ‘a good ten percent of the population has chromosomal variations that do not fit nearly into the XX-female and XY-male set of categories.’ But 2 Korean bloggers found that Dr. Page had never publicized that sort of experimental results.

At least, we can have a chance to speculate that the academic errors can be corrected ever faster than the age of non-internet, especially of Google Scholar service. :-0 If you have background knowledge how J. Butler has been highlighted by her academical achievements in the field of philosophy, especially in the area of gender and sexuality with sociocultural insight, this fallacy seems very critical or even very hard to ignore.

Today is my last day at Google.

I started working in-house at Google almost three years ago. I built a team from scratch. I was fortunate to hire a team of a very talented designers. We introduced Visual Design as a discipline to Google. And we produced amazing work together. I’m very proud of my team, and I wish them well. They have a lot of challenging work ahead. But for me, it’s time to move on.

abstractThis paper introduces an approach for graphically visualiz-ing the affective structure of a text document. A document is first affectively analyzed using a unique textual affect sensing engine, which leverages commonsense knowledge to classify text more reliably and comprehensively than can be achieved with keyword spotting methods alone. Using this engine, sentences are annotated using six basic Ekman emotions. Colors used to represent each of these emotions are sequenced into a color bar, which represents the pro-gression of affect through a text document. Smoothing techniques allow the user to vary the granularity of the af-fective structure being displayed on the color bar. The bar is hyperlinked in a way such that it can be used to easily navigate the document. A user evaluation demonstrates that the proposed method for visualizing and navigating a document’s affective structure facilitates a user’s within-document information foraging activity.

INTRODUCTIONVisualizing a document’s structure is proven to be useful in aiding information retrieval. The classic example is the table of contents, often found at the beginning of a book or lengthy document. In a table of contents, entries are the-matic units such as chapters, sections, and subsections. Glancing through the table, a person can quickly glean the overall thematic structure of the document, allowing him/her to quickly access a section of interest.
Thematic structure, however, is only one of the ways in which people can naturally conceptualize a document. Another way by which people mentally index a document is in terms of its affective structure. In talking about sto-ries, people often make references such as “the sad part” or “the climax.” These are references to a story’s affective structure. This paper introduces an approach for visualiz-ing a document’s affective structure represented in a color-based navigation bar.
First, we describe how the affective structure of text is pro-duced through analysis. Second, we explain the choice of color as the mode of representation. Third, we describe how the color bar is used to navigate a document. Fourth, we discuss a user evaluation. We conclude with a sum-mary of contribution and directions for future work.

기존의 toc(table of content)를 이용한 문서의 인덱싱에서 벗어나 단어를 이용한 감성적 텍스트 분석을 위한 연구. 문장 안에서 sad, angry, fearful, disgusted, surprised, neutral 등의 감정상태를 분류하여 문서 안에 존재하는 감정(감성) 구조를 시각화한다.

소년은 작은 참고서를 빼어들었다. 과정이 모두 정리된 그 참고서를 들고 소년은 아무 것도 하지 않은 채 적당한 부분만을 베끼고 또 베껴서 적당한 위치를 유지하며 돌무더기 섬 사이를 유행하고 있었다. 해가 중천에 다다르고 천정에서 ‘억’ 소리가 날 무렵, 소년은 그 참고서의 2/3가 뜯겨 나갔음을 알게 되었다. 애초에 그 참고서의 나머지 부분들이 쓰여지지 않은 채 돌아다니는 것은 아니었을까라는 생각을 하는 사이, 소년의 배는 가라앉고 가라앉고 또 깊이 더 깊이 가라앉고 있었다.

블로그 관련 정보를 보신 분은 아시겠지만 저는 지난 2003년 부터 이 홈페이지를 운영하고 있습니다. 세 개의 섹션으로 나누어서 개인적인 일기, 공부를 위한 노트, 그리고 취업을 위한 포트폴리오로 이용하고 있지요.
얼마전 황당한 일이 생겼습니다. 서버에 남겨진 referrers log를 확인하고 있었지요. 제가 아는 바에 의하면 이 기록은 제 홈페이지로 들어오기 직전에 클라이언트가 머물던 웹페이지의 주소를 기록해 줍니다. 이를 이용하면 제 홈페이지가 어디에 링크되어 있는지 쉽게 확인할 수 있지요. 그리고 얼마 전에 이상한 주소를 발견했습니다. 어떤 사이트와 그 하위 폴더에서 여러 번에 걸쳐 접근 기록이 있더군요. 단순히 링크려니 생각하고 방문해봤습니다. 참 어이가 없더군요.

3년 전쯤인가 영화를 보고 제가 직접 작성한 글이 떡하니 올라가 있더군요. 물론 출처 표시는 없었습니다. 더 황당한 것은 문장의 종결어미만이 일률적으로 바뀌어져 있더군요. 저는 존대말을 썼지만 그 글을 옮긴 분은 반말투로 바꾸었더군요. 처음에는 저도 이게 제 글인가 싶었지만 페이지를 자세히 비교해 보니 끝말을 바꾼 것 말고는 아무것도 바뀐 것이 없더군요. 그런 생각이 들었습니다. 이거 한 두 번이 아닌 모양이구나.

아닐 수도 있습니다. 우연히 글을 썼는데 글의 순서와 단어가 완전히 일치했으며, 참고로 삼은 링크 주소도 똑같고, 자료로 올린 이미지 파일의 크기와 내용마저 똑같으며 어찌된 영문인지는 모르겠지만 그림 파일을 올린 서버의 주소마저 일치할 수 있습니다. 처음부터 베낄 마음은 전혀 없었다고 말할 수 있을 겁니다. 그럴 용기가 있다면요.

그리고 3일 전에 메일을 보냈습니다.

그래서, 도둑질을 알린다는 마음으로 이 글을 쓰려고 했습니다. 글을 써내려가는 동안 많은 생각이 들더군요. 그리고 아이러니하게도 이 글은 목적을 잃고 말았습니다. 글을 쓰는 저 자신이 이 글을 쓰는 동안 마음이 바뀌어버리고 말았으니까요. 창피해져버렸으니까요.

제가 지금 듣고 있는 음악, 글을 쓰기 위해 이용하는 프로그램, 컴퓨터를 구동하는 OS, 그리고 결정적으로 누군가 가져간 저 글의 소재가 된 영화까지. 모두가 주인이 있는 누군가의 저작물입니다. 저는 그것들을 아무런 댓가 없이 사용하고 있었구요. 이런 상태에서 누군가 내 글을 몰래 가져갔다고 여기 저기 떠벌리는 것이 올바른 일일까요? 맞습니다. 저는 사실 이 일을 떠벌리기 위해 글을 쓰고 있었거든요. 외국의 블로그 서비스 회사에 한글로 된 저작물의 보호를 위해 글삭제를 요청한다는 건 쉬운 일이 아닐 것 같았습니다. 기본적으로 베낀 글이라는 걸 증명하기 어려우니까요. 그래서 제가 떠벌려서 망신을 주려고 했었죠. 블로그를 살펴보니 다른 사람 글도 가져가지 않았을까라는 못된 기대를 하면서요. 하지만 뭔가 잘못 생각하고 있었던 것 같습니다. 이건 마치 장물을 도둑맞은 장물아비 같은 심정이 되어버리는군요.

그래서 지금은 의미 없는 손가락의 움직임으로 이 글을 씁니다. 이미 항의하는 의미의 메일을 보냈지만 답장을 기대하지는 않습니다. 보내려고 했다면 벌써 보냈을테니까요. 결국 무언가 긍정적인 방향으로 바뀔 가능성은 없어보입니다. 그 분이나 저나 마찬가지로 말이죠. 제 블로그가 조금 더 유명한 블로그였다면 상황이 좀 더 좋은 방향으로, 아니 제게 유리한 방향으로 흐를 수 있었을까요? 이 글은 과연 몇 사람이나 읽을까요? 다른 사람들은 이런 경우에 어떻게 반응할까요? 나는 좋은 사람인가요? 여러 가지 생각이 머리를 스칩니다.

씁쓸한 밤입니다.
정말 진지하게, 글을 쓰시고 스스로 무언가를 만들고 계시는 모든 분들께 도움을 구하고자 합니다. 저는 대체 어떻해야 하는 겁니까?
