Hi-ReS, Advanced Flash design company. Based in London, UK.
Founded in London in 1999 Hi-ReS! has moonwalked into the limelight with a non-stop record of awards and accolades. While other digital media companies focused on size and expansion, Hi-ReS concentrated on ideas, visions and entertainment. Our personal gamble has more than paid off, and our wide-ranging international clients have seen the benefits too.
It started with the founders and principle artistic directors, Florian Schmitt and Alexandra Jugovic. They met at the Hochschule fur Gestaltung Offenbach in Germany whilst completing their degrees in Product Design and Fine Art. After this they worked for various clients and companies in the design, music and post-production industry where they honed their skills and refined their artistic approach to commercial projects. They were two artists in love with film, music and traditional art who intuitively grasped the amazing possibilities offered by developing web technologies. They struck out on their own, determined to do justice to that potential.
Typically left-field and true to the pioneering spirit of the on-line world, we jumped head-on into the www with the creation of soulbath.com and the associated exhibition of art-banners entitled clickhere! The project was a sardonic twist, delivering adverts but no products. The collection of “artverts” were produced on an open-submission basis and curated by Alexandra and Florian. The crisp minimal aesthetic was the perfect vehicle for the quirky, wry intelligence of the concept. The media attention was widespread and immediate, culminating in a prominent piece in the New York Times.
Commercial projects soon followed and we showed that our approach could also be applied to “real” advertising. Our work for Mitsubuishi, Lexus and NTT Data pairs an equally artistic and tongue-in-cheek approach with strong commercial sensibilities.
Our work for feature films such as Darren Aronofsky’s “Requiem for a Dream” has been recognised by professional and popular awards on both sides of the Atlantic. Since then we’ve expanded our work in this area with projects including donniedarko.com for Richard Kelly’s “Donnie Darko” and our BAFTA award winning “Minority Report Experience” for Lexus”.
The launch of thethirdplace.com for Sony Playstation2 was another project that captured the defining qualities of Hi-ReS!’s work and won us a Golden Cyberlion at 2003’s Cannes Lions, the Grand Jury Prize at the LIAA 2002 and a Gold Pencil at the 2003 OneClub Interactive awards among others.
Embracing the spirit of the main campaign we created a dimensional and navigable space filled with interactive oddity and twisted toys. Taking a creative risk, and embracing the nature of the net, we extended and enriched the project by bringing in contributions from other new media artists.
Curating these unified but offbeat cultural objects and experiences for such big clients is something we regard, along with our unique take on interactive storytelling, as one of our core competences.
True to our origins in Art and Music, we maintain an on-going series of non-commercial projects. In 2001 we created an interactive installation for the London Festival of Moving Images, in 2002 we were commissioned to produce a piece for the prestigious Art Futura festival in Spain and in 2003, we were asked to create an installation to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the internet for Iconologica in Alicante, Spain, called Inbox/Outbox.
We plot and dream – it’s all about communication and ideas; we maintain a regular presence at various professional conferences, speaking and demonstrating our passion for attempting the impossible and succeeding.
As a result of all this endeavour our work has been featured in over 50 books and magazines.
We were voted into RES-magazine’s Top Ten list of “Innovators to Watch” and appeared as the only creative agency in the Entertainment Weekly It-List of 2001. In just 4 years we’ve built a broad portfolio of clients and projects and made a lot of friends doing so. Back home in the UK we were voted “Best interactive Agency” in the Creative Review “Peer Pool” in May 2002, and best new-media Creatives in Campaign Magazine’s “The Book of Lists” December 2002.
With clients willing to push the boundaries and take things further, we will continue to bring concepts and techniques together, mixing fairy-dust and debris into new forms to delight your senses.
