홈페이지에는 a USB stick sized compute device라고 되어 있다. 메모리스틱(보다 실은 약간 더 크지만 거의 비슷한) 크기에 무선랜부터 HDMI까지 몽땅 때려박았다. 심지어 그래픽 처리는 ARM계열의 쿼드코어 프로세서가 담당. 이 글 쓰는 노트북의 CPU가 듀얼코어인데 말이다. 20년도 더 전에 쓰던 IBM XT호환 컴퓨터를 생각하면 글자 그대로 후덜덜.

Pat Metheny의 음반이야 워낙에 많으니 추천이 쉽지 않겠지만, 개인적으로는 실험적인 악기 사용이 돋보였던 Orchestrion 앨범을 좋아한다, ECM은 아니지만.

조금 더 생생한 Egberto Gismonti의 연주는 Charlie Haden과 함께 했던 몬트리올 실황 앨범, In Montreal(2001)에서도 들을 수 있다. 활화산 같은 Gismonti의 기타 연주와 하늘을 뒤덮은 구름이 천천히 발길을 내딛는 듯한 Haden의 베이스 연주는 일품이다.

My Song은 분명 이견의 여지가 없는 Keith Jarrett의 히트앨범이지만, …
천천히 늙어가는 옆집 할아버지가 저녁 무렵 손녀에게 들려주는 피아노 연주를 내방 창가에서 훔쳐듣는 느낌의 (….) The Melody at Night, With You(1999) 를 놓치고 싶지는 않다. (옆집 할아버지, 알고보니 은퇴한 거장 재즈 피아니스트!)

Jan Garbarek 은 Hilliard Ensemble과의 협업을 통해 완전히 새로운 지점에서 목소리와 색소폰의 울림을 전달했다. Mnemosyne(1999)는 익숙한 악기의 새로운 모습을 보여준다. 이 앨범은 분명 소리 이상의 무엇을 전달한다.

Pat Metheny로 시작한 추천을 다시 Pat Metheny로 끝내는 것은 분명 편협한 선택이다. 그런데 Pat한테는, 그래도 된다.

이런 건 제때제때 봐야하는데….

There is a list with 10 notable recommendations. And the stable one for instant use is double commmander (project homepage). And sunflower file commander is also a promising recommendation.

Unfortunately, Google stopped hositng their multi-lingual dictionary service. On behalf of the annoyed long-term users, including me, someone wrote a questionary post at google’s support forum. Now, the answer:

Google Dictionary was recently integrated into Google Web Search. Simply search for “define X” where X is the word you want to look up. Clicking on the “more” link (or on the toolbelt “Dictionary” link on the left) will give you practically the same experience that was available on dictionary.google.com.

We’re working hard to make the dictionary experience even better on google.com so it will be easier for our users to get the dictionary experience without the need to go to a separate property.

It is clear that Google Web Search and its poor features to compare with the now-gone Google Dictionary Service can not be the alterantive for the old good one.
